Job Summary:

An employee classified as a travel paramedic will be working at various Century locations, as needed.  The travel paramedic will be responsible for safely and expeditiously arriving on scene and at the patient’s side with appropriate medical equipment, providing care to the sick or injured on an emergency or non-emergency basis, transporting the patient to their destination, and transferring the patient for continuing care. Paramedics are also required to perform other appropriate duties as assigned by their supervisor.


Work is to be performed in accordance with standard written guidelines and additional physician’s orders received at a sending facility or via telephone or radio. Employees are expected to exercise considerable independent judgment, based on technical training in the emergency medical field. Work is reviewed through quality assurance, reports, and observation of results.


Employees assigned to this classification may be the lead crewmember on an ALS ambulance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Respond to BLS and ALS inter-facility transports, scene calls and 9-1-1 in some counties
  • Assess and monitor the condition of ill and/or injured patients with early recognition of life-threatening situations and react according to scope of practice
  • Provide basic and advanced life support, including comprehensive patient assessment, invasive airway management, cardiac monitoring and administration of medications
  • Provide an immediate course of treatment en route to hospital or receiving facility
  • Liaison with members of other facilities – such as police, fire, hospitals, senior living facilities and other EMS agencies to ensure the appropriate level of response is provided
  • Inspects vehicle, equipment and supplies daily to ensure cleanliness, proper operating condition, and in compliance with all state and local laws and requirements
  • Knowledge of defensive driving techniques, methods, and ability to execute such methods quickly and efficiently
  • Clean, decontaminate and check vehicles and equipment to maintain a state of operational readiness following each patient contact
  • Produce thorough patient care reports including the patient’s history, condition, and treatment via paper and/or electronic means as circumstances dictate
  • Prepares and maintains records and reports as directed and in accordance with state laws, rules, regulations and company guidelines
  • Must always maintain current industry standards and active / clear certifications through continuing education

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Upon submission of application, proof of the following must be provided and valid:
    • Florida driver license
    • Florida Paramedic certificate / card
    • ACLS
    • BLS for Healthcare Providers (CPR and AED)
    • PHTLS* (required for Critical Care Paramedic ONLY)


Preferred Certifications (training courses offered at Century for employees):

  • 16-hour minimum Emergency Vehicle Operator Course (EVOC)
    • To be obtained within 30 days of employment
  • PALS or PEPP
    • To be obtained within 90 days of employment

Physical Demands:

  • Must be willing and able to travel to work site and be prepared to stay in housing that will be provided for the duration of the scheduled time of work.
  • Must be able to perform the following tasks:
    • Walk - frequently, up to 4 hours per day
    • Run - infrequently, 1-2 minutes per day
    • Stand - frequently, up to 2 hours per day
    • Sit - frequently, up to 12 hours per day
    • Kneel - frequently, 10-15 times per day
    • Bend - frequently, 10-15 times per day
  • Must be able to lift, push, pull, carry:
    • 250 lbs. infrequently (1-6 times per shift)
    • 150 lbs. frequently (8-16 times per shift)
  • Must have the ability to step up and/ or climb over obstacles
  • Must be able to climb stairs while carrying up to 150 lbs.
  • Must have adequate hearing acuity to perform job tasks (as delineated in Florida Statutes 322.12 and 322.221, F.S. - License Examinations)
  • Must have adequate vision (with corrective lenses if needed) to clearly distinguish colors, shapes, distances, etc. (as delineated in Florida Statutes 322.12 and 322.221, F.S. - License Examinations)
  • Must have adequate hand and finger dexterity to grip and hold both large and small items
  • Must have adequate hand and arm strength to grip and lift heavy objects
  • Must be able to tolerate work in an outdoor environment (heat, cold, rain, etc.)
