Minimum starting pay for these positions $21/Hour

Job Summary:

Provides high quality advanced life support including assessment, triage, and treatment utilizing standards and guidelines established by Century’s Medical Directors within scope of practice; assesses the nature and extent of illness and injury to establish and prioritize care needed for safe transport of the critical patient to the appropriate facility.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Acts as a representative of Century Ambulance and UF Health / Trauma One
  • Works with UF Health / Trauma One to build and maintain a cohesive team
  • Respond and deliver customer-oriented treatment and support to high-acuity patients in the transport environment under the direction of the Medical Directors and the referring and/or receiving physicians in accordance with SOGs, policies, and standards of care
  • Independently evaluate critically ill or injured patients of all age groups and provide appropriate emergency and therapeutic interventions throughout the continuum of care
  • Proactively identify changes in the patient’s status with subsequent rapid interventions all while maintaining open lines of communication with dispatch and receiving facility of patient condition
  • Continually operate as a patient advocate from inception of call to transfer of care while upholding compliance standards
  • Demonstrate effective communication skills with patients and their families, facility staff, members of other EMS agencies, as well as internal Century field crews and management
  • Generate accurate and thorough documentation on all required mediums to include electronic and paper charting with prompt response to any QA or audit inquiries
  • Maintain a minimum of 25 critical care continuing education units (CEUs) annually in clinical competencies including but not limited to: advanced airway management, chest tube, IV pumps, intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP), Impella assist device, external ventricular drain (EVD), invasive lines, and arterial hemodynamic monitoring
  • Participation in monthly case and performance improvement reviews of Century CCT transports with contribution from associate team members, Medical Directors, Training, Operations, Risk and Safety, and outside resources as applicable
  • Contribute and participate in community and public education events
  • Initiate and complete transports within scheduled shift, understanding that conclusion of these transports may require extend time beyond anticipated end time
  • Unit may be utilized for non-critical care transports in which crews are expected to perform
  • Participate in all Century Ambulance and UF Health / Trauma One meetings and trainings as required by the CCT Program
  • Work and assist in the hospital setting as required by the CCT Program

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid driver license
  • Florida Paramedic certificate
  • 4-5 years paramedic experience preferred, 2 years minimum required in pre-hospital, interfacility, or critical care transport
  • 16-hour minimum Emergency Vehicle Operator Course (EVOC)
    • Type IV / MAV training to be provided by Century and completed successfully within 30 days of acceptance into program
  • Successful completion of Critical Care or Flight Paramedic program from approved provider
  • Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (BLS with CPR and AED)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • Advanced Pediatric Life Support (PALS or PEPP)
  • Advanced trauma training (PHTLS or ITLS)

Other Requirements:

  • Successfully pass background investigation and pre-employment drug testing
  • Internal applicants – A review of employee history will be completed
  • Must maintain current industry and Century standards with active / clear certifications and licenses

 

Mental & Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to perform the following tasks:
    • Walk - frequently, up to 10 hours per day
    • Run - infrequently, 1-2 minutes per day
    • Stand - frequently, up to 10hours per day
    • Sit - frequently, up to 12 hours per day
    • Kneel - frequently, 10-15 times per day
    • Bend - frequently, 10-15 times per day
  • Must be able to lift, push, pull, carry:
    • 250 lbs. infrequently (1-6 times per shift)
    • 150 lbs. frequently (8-16 times per shift)
  • Must have the ability to step up and/ or climb over obstacles
  • Must be able to climb stairs while carrying up to 150 lbs.
  • Must have adequate hearing acuity to perform job tasks (as delineated in Florida Statutes 322.12 and 322.221, F.S. - License Examinations)
  • Must have adequate vision (with corrective lenses if needed) to clearly distinguish colors, shapes, distances, etc. (as delineated in Florida Statutes 322.12 and 322.221, F.S. - License Examinations)
  • Must have adequate hand and finger dexterity to grip and hold both large and small items
  • Must have adequate hand and arm strength to grip and lift heavy objects
  • Must be able to tolerate work in an outdoor environment (heat, cold, rain, etc.)
  • Coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Collect, interpret, and/or analyze complex data and information
  • Understand and respond to a diverse population
  • Utilize fine motor coordination, clear speech, and good visual acuity
